Beijing Foreign Studies Beiwai University, directly under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, is one of the first batch of "world-class discipline construction universities" and the first batch of "211 Project" in China. It has been selected as the national "985 project advantage discipline innovation platform", "2011 plan", the national construction of high-level university public postgraduate project, and the National College Students' cultural quality education base. It is one of the six "small universities" of the Ministry of finance As a member of the International Federation of College of translation, one of the "Pilot Universities of large scale", it is a University of Beijing Hong Kong University Alliance and Sino Japanese University Alliance for people to people exchanges, with a graduate school. It is a national key university with a long history, the largest number of teaching languages and a complete range of educational levels among China's foreign language universities, known as the "cradle of diplomats of the Republic".The predecessor of Beijing Foreign Studies University was the Russian language brigade of the third branch of the Chinese people's Anti Japanese military and Political University, which was founded in Yan'an in 1941. Later, it developed into Yan'an foreign languages school, which was under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. After the founding of new China, the school was under the leadership of the Ministry of foreign affairs. In 1954, it was renamed Beijing Institute of foreign languages; in 1959, it merged with Beijing Institute of Russian to form a new Beijing Institute of foreign languages. After 1980, it was directly under the leadership of the Ministry of education. In 1994, it was officially renamed Beijing Foreign Studies University.As of December 2016, Beijing Foreign Studies University has set up two campuses on both sides of the Third Ring Road in Haidian District, Beijing, with a collection of more than 1.36 million paper books in Chinese and foreign languages and more than 1.26 million e-books in Chinese and foreign languages. It has 21 teaching departments, 97 majors, 1 postdoctoral mobile station in foreign languages and literature, 18 doctoral degree authorization points and 63 master's degree awarding centers Quandian, four national key disciplines (including cultivation disciplines); currently, the university has 1255 in-service teaching staff, 172 foreign teachers from 44 countries and regions, 5088 regular undergraduate students, 2559 graduate students and 932 overseas students with academic qualifications.
