Central Academy of Fine Arts (hereinafter referred to as "Yangmei") was born in 1918. It was initially named National Beijing fine arts school. It is the first National Academy of fine arts education in Chinese history and the beginning of modern fine arts education in China. Yangmei gave birth to the earliest fine arts education system in China, and created the earliest university disciplines such as calligraphy, modeling, design, architecture and Humanities in China. It is the founder of China's fine arts higher education since modern times. It is the only higher art school directly under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. It is one of the first batch of "world-class discipline construction universities" in China. It is the first of the eight art schools. It has been selected into the national construction of high-level university public postgraduate program, the receiving University of Chinese government scholarship for international students in China and the first batch of Ministry of education demonstration base for overseas students in China.The Central Academy of fine arts was founded in 1918 as the National Beijing Academy of fine arts initiated by Mr. Cai Yuanpei. In 1927, it was renamed as the Art College of Peking University. In 1934, it was restored as the National Peking art college. In 1938, it was renamed as the "National Art College". In November 1949, the National Peking Art College and the three fine arts departments of North China University were merged, and the three fine arts departments of North China University were established The predecessor of the art department is the Fine Arts Department of Lu Xun Art Institute in Yan'an, which was founded in 1938. With the approval of the Central People's government, the National Academy of fine arts was established. Chairman Mao Zedong inscribed the name of the Academy. In January 1950, it was officially named the Central Academy of fine arts with the approval of the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's government.According to the school's official website in August 2019, the Central Academy of fine arts covers an area of 495 mu, with a total construction area of 247000 square meters. Wangjing campus covers an area of 205 mu with a building area of 144000 square meters; Yanjiao campus covers an area of 205 mu with a building area of 68000 square meters; houshayu campus covers an area of 67 mu with a building area of 29000 square meters; Xiaoying campus covers an area of 18 mu with a building area of 6000 square meters.
