China Academy of traditional opera is a University jointly built by the Ministry of culture and tourism of the people's Republic of China and the Beijing Municipal People's government. It is the first batch of excellent traditional Chinese culture inheritance bases of the Ministry of education, the research base for the inheritance and development of Beijing traditional opera culture, and the secondary unit of philosophy society management in Beijing.Founded on January 28, 1950, the college was formerly affiliated to the Ministry of culture, and was initially called the opera Experimental School of the opera improvement bureau of the Ministry of culture; in January 1955, it was renamed the Chinese opera school; in November 1973, it was merged into the "central May 7th University of Arts" of the Ministry of culture, and later renamed the "Opera School of the central May 7th University of Arts"; in February 1977, it officially restored the establishment of the Chinese opera school; in October 1978, it was upgraded to the middle school In 2000, it was transferred to Beijing.According to the official website of the college in December 2018, the college covers a total area of 54300 square meters, with a total construction area of 96000 square meters, a total of 272 full-time teachers; it has 8 departments, 14 undergraduate majors and 27 professional directions, 3 first-class academic degree master's degree programs and 3 professional master's degree authorization fields.
