In 1969, the school moved to Handan, Hebei. In 1970, it moved to Baoding and renamed Hebei Electric Power University. In 1978, it was approved by the State Council as a national key university, and in the same year it was renamed North China Electric Power University. In 1995, North China Electric Power University was merged with Beijing Institute of dynamic economics to form North China Electric Power University. In March 2003, the school was transferred from the former state power company to the Ministry of education, and officially became a university directly under the Ministry of education. In October 2005, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the school department was changed from Baoding to Beijing, with North China Electric Power University (Baoding) campus.According to the official website of the school in December 2018, the school covers an area of more than 1600 mu, with a construction area of more than 1 million square meters, forming a school running pattern of two campuses (Beijing, Baoding) and three campuses. The two campuses implement substantive integrated management. There are nearly 3000 teaching staff, more than 20000 full-time undergraduates and nearly 10000 graduate students.
