Hebei Medical University Hebei Medical University is located in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province. It is jointly built by the people's Government of Hebei Province, the national health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of education. It has been selected into the national "Midwest university basic capacity building project", "excellent doctor education and training plan", "national construction of high-level university public postgraduate project" and "national characteristic key university" It is a key backbone University in Hebei Province and the leading unit of Beijing excellent medical talents training university alliance. It has become a comprehensive medical university integrating teaching, scientific research and medical treatment.It was founded in Tianjin in 1894 by Li Hongzhang, the governor of Zhili and Minister of Beiyang. It is the first official Western Medical College in modern China. After the revolution of 1911, Beiyang medical school changed its name to Zhili public medical school in 1913 and began to recruit undergraduate students. In 1915, the school moved to Baoding. On July 7, 1937, the Anti Japanese war broke out, and the school was forced to stop. In January 1946, the University resumed its enrollment. In April 1949, it was renamed Hebei Medical College. In 1958, the school moved from Baoding to Shijiazhuang. In 1995, the former Hebei Medical College, Hebei College of traditional Chinese medicine and Shijiazhuang medical college were merged and renamed Hebei Medical University. In 2013, Hebei University of traditional Chinese medicine resumed its independent system.As of December 2019, the school covers an area of 223900 square meters, with a building area of 361200 square meters. There are more than 15000 staff (including directly affiliated hospitals) in the whole school system. The school has two campuses, five directly affiliated hospitals, 18 secondary colleges and 25 undergraduate majors. There are 15790 full-time students, including 3709 doctoral and master students and 427 international students. Neuroscience and behavioral science, pharmacology and toxicology, and clinical medicine are among the top 1% of ESI in the world.
