Yanshan University Located in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, the university is a national key university jointly built by the people's Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of education, the Ministry of industry and information technology, and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense. It is a member of the alliance of Beijing high tech universities and CDIO Engineering Education Alliance. In 1958, the heavy machinery department and related majors of Harbin Institute of technology moved to Fulaerji District of Qiqihar City, an important industrial town, and established the Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of technology. In 1960, it ran an independent school, named Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute, and became a university directly under the former Ministry of machinery industry. In 1978, it was designated as a national key university. From 1985 to 1997, the whole school moved to Qinhuangdao city. In 1997, it was renamed Yanshan University with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 1998, it was transferred from the former Ministry of machinery industry to Hebei Province, where the central government and local governments jointly built the project, with Hebei Province as the main management.
