The Institute of disaster prevention science and technology is subordinate to the China Earthquake Administration. It is the only comprehensive full-time ordinary university in China that focuses on higher education of disaster prevention and reduction and has complete disciplines. The college has been listed as the pilot unit of professional degree postgraduate training of "talent training project serving national special needs" by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. The college is one of the "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education, the first batch of pilot schools of emergency management college construction, and the provincial master project construction unit of Hebei Province.The college was founded in 1975. Its predecessor was Tianshui seismological School of the State Seismological Bureau. In 1985, it was upgraded and renamed as "College of seismic technology", in 1992, it was renamed as "College of disaster prevention technology", and in February 2006, it was upgraded and renamed as "College of disaster prevention technology".As of April 2020, the library of the college has more than 1 million books, with an average teaching and research equipment value of 37000 yuan per student; 32 undergraduate majors, 1 master's personnel training project serving national special needs; and more than 8600 full-time students.
