Hetao University is a full-time ordinary undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of education. It implements the two-level management system of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Bayannaoer City. It is mainly managed by the autonomous region and approved by the people's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as a pilot college for overall transformation.The University started from Hetao University established in 1985; in April 2000, with the approval of the people's Government of the autonomous region, it decided to merge Bameng Education College and Bameng normal school into Hetao University; on March 29, 2012, it was upgraded to Hetao University with the approval of the Ministry of education.According to the official website of the college in May 2020, the college covers an area of 1047.98 mu, with a building area of 240000 square meters, fixed assets of 500 million yuan and a collection of 975200 books. The college has 13 teaching departments and colleges of continuing education, 32 undergraduate majors and 24 junior college enrollment majors, 1122 teaching staff and 10546 full-time students, including 6692 undergraduates and 2178 minority students, including 1854 Mongolian students.
