It is the first institution of higher learning to study business founded by Chinese people. In 1921, the business department expanded and reorganized, and moved to Shanghai. National Southeast University was established, and Shanghai Business University was established. Since then, Shanghai National Business School was established as the national independent university in 1932. In 1950, it was renamed Shanghai Institute of Finance and economics. In 1960, it was renamed Shanghai University of Finance and economics. In 1985, it was renamed Shanghai University of Finance and economics. In 2000, the school was under the leadership of the Ministry of Education under the Ministry of finance.As of September 2017, the university has three campuses, covering an area of 826 mu; 1043 full-time teachers; 20419 students of various types, including 15159 full-time students; 8041 undergraduates, 6053 masters, 1166 doctoral students and 826 international students with academic degrees.
