Shanghai University of Sport (abbreviated as "Shangti") is a Sports University jointly managed by the State General Administration of sports and Shanghai Municipal People's government. It is one of the first batch of world-class discipline construction universities in China and a pilot construction unit of high-level local universities in Shanghai. The university has been selected as a Chinese government scholarship qualification school and a pilot University designated by the Ministry of education to independently recruit Chinese government scholarship students.Founded in November 1952, Shanghai Institute of physical education, formerly known as East China Institute of physical education, is composed of physical education departments and branches of Nanjing University, Jinling Women's University and East China Normal University. In 1956, it was renamed Shanghai Institute of physical education. The school was directly under the State General Administration of sports. In June 2001, it became an ordinary full-time University jointly built by the State General Administration of sports and the Shanghai Municipal People's government and sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal People's government.As of March 2020, the university has two campuses, Yangpu and Xuhui, covering an area of more than 600 mu; it has 10 teaching units, with 23 undergraduate majors; it has 1 doctoral degree awarding point, 7 doctoral degree awarding points, 4 master degree awarding points, 11 master degree awarding points, and 4 master degree awarding points; it has teaching posts There are nearly 700 workers, 259 teachers with senior professional titles, and more than 6000 students.
