Its predecessor is Shandong Agricultural College, which was founded in Jinan in 1906. After several changes, Shandong Agricultural University was established in 1952 after the adjustment of national departments. It was moved from Jinan to Tai'an in 1958 and renamed Shandong Agricultural University in 1983. In July 1999, the former Shandong Agricultural University and Shandong Water Conservancy College merged, and the Shandong Forestry School merged to form a new Shandong Agricultural University. Graduate education began in 1954. In 1981, it became one of the first batch of authorized units for master's degree.
