Wuhan Polytechnic University is the first school in China to train professionals in the grain industry. It is a University jointly built by the State Food and materials reserve bureau and the people's Government of Hubei Province, and a first-class discipline construction university in Hubei Province. It has been selected into the first batch of outstanding talents education and training programs in agriculture and forestry.The school originated from Wuhan accounting secondary technical school founded in 1951. It was once subordinate to the former Ministry of grain, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of domestic trade. In 1980, it was approved by the State Council to establish Wuhan Institute of grain industry. In 1993, it was renamed Wuhan Institute of food industry. In 1998, it implemented a management system jointly built by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Hubei Province. In 1999, it was renamed Wuhan Institute of industry In 2000 and 2003, the former Wuhan traffic health school and the former Hubei general technology and engineering school were merged as a whole; in 2013, it was renamed Wuhan University of light industry.As of February 2020, the school has two campuses, with nearly 1 million square meters of school land, 510000 square meters of school building area, more than 1.51 million volumes of paper literature in the library, and 270 million yuan of teaching and scientific research equipment; there are nearly 1400 teaching staff, more than 890 full-time teachers, including more than 500 teachers with high professional titles, and more than 90% of the full-time teachers have doctor's and master's degrees There are more than 17000 full-time school-based junior college students and graduate students; there are 14 teaching colleges (departments), 64 undergraduate majors and 9 junior college majors; there are 13 first-class master degree programs, 63 second-class master degree programs, 6 Master degree authorization categories and 10 master degree authorization fields.
