Xiangtan University (abbreviated as "Xiangda") is a comprehensive national key university initiated by Chairman Mao Zedong. The Ministry of education and Hunan Province support the construction of high-level universities and characteristic disciplines. The first-class universities in Hunan Province (Class A) are jointly built by the Ministry of education, the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense and Hunan Province. It has been selected as 111 program, national characteristic key discipline projects, collaborative innovation center jointly built by provinces and ministries, the first batch of National Applied Mathematics centers, the first batch of national patent collaborative application pilot units, new engineering research and practice projects, the first batch of national intellectual property information service centers in Colleges and universities, excellent legal talent education and training plan, basic ability construction project of colleges and universities in central and Western China, and the first batch of deepening innovation projects in China New entrepreneurship education reform model universities, national construction of high-level university public postgraduate project, Chinese government scholarship to receive foreign students in China, etc.In 1958, under the personal initiative of Chairman Mao Zedong, Xiangtan University was founded. In the same year, the chairman personally wrote the name of the University and kindly asked "we must run Xiangtan University well". After that, the school was closed for some reason. In 1974, Comrade Deng Xiaoping approved the resumption of the school. In 1978, the State Council approved Xiangtan University as a national key comprehensive university. In 1981, the University became one of the first batch of authorized units for master's degree in China. In 2018, general secretary Xi Jinping made important instructions to the school, hoping that Xiangtan University would take root in the great man's hometown and strive to make the school run better and more distinctive.Xiangtan University has the reputation of "computational Xiangjun". It has the first credit risk management college in China. The four disciplines of mathematics, materials science, chemistry and engineering rank in the top 1% of the world. It is the birthplace of rheological mechanics and consumer economics in China, one of the 10 national innovation experimental zones of legal talent training mode, and one of the four top 100 universities in Hunan Province. There are 3 national key disciplines, 19 national first-class undergraduate construction majors, 15 first-class doctoral programs and 15 post doctoral research stations.
