Hunan Institute of science and technology is a master's degree authorized unit approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. It is one of the first batch of national industry education integration development engineering application-oriented undergraduate universities. It has been included in the establishment plan of Hunan Provincial People's government to change universities during the 13th five year plan period.The school was founded in 1907 as Panhu Academy. It was named Yueyang University in 1985. In February 2003, it was officially renamed Hunan Institute of technology. In 2017, the university successfully completed the inspection work of audit and evaluation experts, and was listed as the 13th five year plan of Hunan Province to establish a university. It was approved to be awarded the doctoral degree to the project construction unit, and once again won the honorary title of "national civilized unit", and approved to add 10 master's degree sites at one time.As of March 2018, the campus area of the university is more than 2100 mu, with 4 kilometers of lake shoreline.
