It was officially established in 1952 during the adjustment period of colleges and departments of national colleges and universities. It was transferred to Hunan University and Wuchang University on the basis of Engineering College of Sun Yat sen University, science and Technology College of South China Union University, engineering department and specialty of science and Technology College of Lingnan University, and Guangdong Polytechnic College It was founded by some engineering departments and majors of five universities, including Zhonghua University, Wuhan Jiaotong University, Nanchang University and Guangxi University. It was even more famous in 1988. As the foundation, the school of technology of Sun Yat sen University originated from the school of technology of National Sun Yat sen University in 1931.As of July 2018, the school covers an area of about 3.91 million square meters.
