Guangzhou University is a comprehensive university established with the approval of the Ministry of education. It implements the system of Co Construction of provinces and cities and city based education. It is a high-level university in Guangdong Province for key discipline construction, a "first-class" key discipline construction university in Guangdong Province and a high-level university in Guangzhou.The University was established in 2000 by the merger of Guangzhou Normal University, South China Institute of construction (West Institute), Guangzhou Institute of education, former Guangzhou University and Guangzhou Teachers College. The history of the former Guangzhou University can be traced back to 1927 when the private Guangzhou University was founded. The former Guangzhou Institute of education was founded in 1953, the former Guangzhou Normal University was founded in 1958, the former South China Institute of construction (West Institute) was founded in 1984, and the former Guangzhou Normal College was founded in 1985.As of December 2019, the university has two campuses, namely university town and guihuagang, with a total area of 1880 Mu and a total construction area of 885000 square meters. There are 26 colleges with 65 undergraduate enrollment majors. There are 29788 full-time undergraduates, 4990 master's and doctoral students. There are 2856 teaching staff, including 1195 with deputy senior titles and 1951 teaching and research personnel. As of 2020, there will be 3 master's degree authorized centers, 4 master's degree authorized centers, 4 master's degree authorized centers, 4 master's degree authorized centers, and 1 master's degree authorized center.
