In 1981, it was approved as a master's degree awarding unit. In 2003, it was approved as a doctor's degree awarding unit. In 2006, it became a provincial key university. In 2015, it was renamed Guizhou Medical University.As of June 2018, the university has two campuses, covering an area of 1868 mu, with a total value of 400 million yuan in teaching and research equipment, a library collection of 1.8135 million books and 430000 e-books, 20 teaching units and 35 undergraduate majors, 4854 on-the-job staff of the University and its affiliated college, and 20589 full-time students, including 18439 undergraduates, 1914 postgraduates and 236 international students.
