Xi'an Polytechnic Western Engineering University, for short, is the only university with textile and garment characteristics in Western China. It is also a university with "excellent engineer education and training plan" of the Ministry of education, a university with "new engineering research and practice project" (excellent engineer education and training plan 2.0) of the Ministry of education, a high-level university of Shaanxi Province, and the first batch of "2011 collaborative innovation center of Shaanxi Province" University, with the right to confer a master's degree.The predecessor of Xi'an University of technology was the weaving department of Beijing Higher Technical College founded in 1912. After the development of the Department of textile of national Beiping University, the Department of textile of northwest United University and the Department of textile of Northwest Institute of technology, Xi'an University of technology began to recruit master's degree students of Textile Engineering in 1959. Northwest Institute of textile technology was established in 1978, under the former Ministry of textile industry. In 1998, it was assigned to the local government and jointly built by the central government and the local government, mainly managed by Shaanxi Province. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University changed its name to Xi'an Engineering University.As of December 2018, Jinhua and Lintong campuses cover an area of 1.08 million square meters, with 15 secondary departments and 63 undergraduate majors; there are 16 first-class master's degree authorization points and 7 master's degree categories; there are more than 1000 teachers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering; there are more than 20000 students in various categories, including more than 18000 undergraduates and more than 2200 master's degree graduates.
