Northwest Normal University, located in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, is a key university jointly built by the people's Government of Gansu Province and the Ministry of education. It is one of the 14 universities in the western region supported by the state. Supported by Beijing Normal University.The school, formerly known as the National Peking Normal University, originated from the normal school of Beijing University established in 1902. It was changed into "National Beijing Normal University" in 1912 and "National Peking Normal University" in 1923. In 1937, the United National Normal University and Peiping National Normal University were reorganized into the Northwest Normal University. In 1939, the normal college of northwest United University was established independently and renamed National Northwest Normal College. In 1941, it moved to Lanzhou. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the national Northwest Normal University continued to run in Lanzhou. In 1958, under the leadership of Gansu Province by the Ministry of education, it was renamed Gansu Normal University. In 1981, it was renamed Northwest Normal University.
