Northwest Minzu University (hereinafter referred to as "Northwest Minzu University") is located in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. It is a central university directly under the State Commission for ethnic affairs. It is jointly built by the State Commission for ethnic affairs, the Ministry of education, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the people's Government of Gansu Province. It is the first ethnic university founded after the founding of the people's Republic of China. It is a member of CDIO Engineering Education Alliance and a member of UNESCO China Entrepreneurship Education Alliance.The school was founded in September 1949 by the first field army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army in Lanzhou. In January 1950, it was rebuilt as the third Department of Lanzhou Branch of northwest people's revolutionary University. In August 1950, Northwest Institute for nationalities was officially established. In April 2003, NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY FOR NATIONALITIES changed its name to Northwest University for nationalities.As of March 2019, the university has built two campuses, with a total area of 1776 mu, including 359 mu of Northwest Xincun campus, 1417 mu of Yuzhong campus, more than 4 million books (including e-books), 2964 cultural relics in the museum, and about 470 million yuan of teaching and scientific research equipment. It has 28 teaching units, 71 undergraduate majors, 1914 teaching staff and 26544 full-time students Among them, there are 24258 undergraduates and 1795 postgraduates.
